It Walks

The title says it all, Kayden is walking!

In December, he started to pull up on everything and I mean everything. We went camping during Christmas time and his favorite activity was standing up at the chili bin, banging his hands on the top and babbling away.

The coffee table has been an unsafe surface for some time now, we’ve been teaching Sylvie to keep her things, especially if they are small pieces on higher tables.

Then in January, we brought the walker out and he was loving assisted walking. He even did an aisle at bunnings holding my hands, he loved it so much he was wiggling around and nearly tripping himself over. He has also been using the walker down the deck at daycare and one day made it all the way to the big kid end.

About 10 days ago, he took his first steps not holding onto anything. It started with 1-2 little steps and a whole lot of encouragement, holding our hands out for him to reach. Since then, he has been skilling up very quickly from 4 steps, to 12 steps and the other day he went half way across the lounge, Lee counted 19 steps.

When he walks he beams this smile, like he is so incredibly proud of himself. And of course we are too.

I am so beyond happy we have reached this milestone, its a big one.

I’m struggling to find new words, I’ve called him a miracle thousands of times and marvel at how far he has come. We have reflected on the unfortunate things that were said to us before they saved him and even after, when they spoke of his low cortical folding.

I have no new words to express my joy.

I am so ready to chase him all over the house. I will chase him through the shopping malls and parks. Ill be smirking while shouting at him across the room. I am ready to have to keep tabs on him because he is here and there and everywhere. I will be so happy to see him running, getting faster and more confident on his feet.

I will always be cheering him on and I love watching him grow.

Whatever he gets into, we can clean it up and we will learn to laugh it off because above all, I am so happy he can.
