Today Kayden turns 2.

He has no idea, but he is dressed super cute for daycare in a collared tee, light jeans and new striped crew. He was not keen on a birthday morning photo but the outtakes are adorable anyways. Maybe he doesn’t want to be 2 or maybe hes exercising his right to cry on his birthday.

He has come so far, I’m still amazed by him everyday.

He was recently discharged from the Neurodevelopmental therapist and cruised through a Speech and Language assessment for his adjusted age. Although we rarely refer to his two ages now. His size is only remaining focus. He was also not keen on getting on the scales this morning, best I could get was 9.55kg which nearly brings him up to the next curve. He is blending more and more into the pack, no one would ever guess he was only half cooked.

He is hilariously cheeky, he likes to argue with Lee on the stairs shouting ‘get down” then hiding behind the wall about 3 steps up and laughing. He likes to high speed grab a handful of dirt out of the large plant by the front and throw into the air before you could ever possibly stop him. As it all sprinkles across the floor, he stands there watching with zero remorse. He likes to hide behind the monstera plant and wait for you to spot him there then chuckle. He managed to walk half a km the other day on the Hobsonville coastal walkway, a very impressive feat. He is becoming a little carnivore and stores meat into his right cheek like a little gerbil until there is far too much in his mouth. He also yells ‘chichen’ for chicken at dinner and shares a lot of food with the dog. If the front door is open, he will bolt out. We followed him one day to see how far he would go and well, he just kept going, out the door, past the driveway and down to the road. He is getting so fast on his feet and rides his bike backwards.

In the past year, he has learnt to walk, is starting to talk and is finally eating food with us. He stands in the middle of the kitchen screaming ‘buba” which is usually bottle but sometimes means whatever he currently wants which is tricky to decipher. He will pull at the drawers to get snacks and demand food off everyone’s plate, he stole a massive piece of steak from Sam at a BBQ. It was hard road to get here and I am so happy to share all my food with him.

His relationship with his sister is changing as his skills level up. He likes to play with the toys in her room and wants everything she is holding. She has very quickly learnt to trade him for things she doesn’t want to get it back. She’s is very cautious and checks in with us before giving him something new or small.

His overall disposition is very happy. He does these deep belly laughs and is always wearing a smile. And oh, those eyebrows are so expressive.

They say time flies but we had a baby for what felt like forever. Its incredible to see him catching up, time heals suits us a bit better.
