Welcome to the Rollercoaster
NICU 4
NICU Part 4
Day 4 - 6
Gestation 23 weeks
It’s my birthday and my only wish was to still be pregnant on my birthday. I tease Kayden that he didn’t get me the one things I asked for, I mean it didn’t cost anything and he just needed to well, stay put
Lee did lots for my birthday, we had a BBQ with some friends and the most amazing oreo cake. I also got a push present which I jokingly call my “catch” present, one handed catch actually.
Kayden gave me a good day. There are no changes to his fluids, drugs or milk intake. His skin is looking better and stronger. It doesnt come away with you anymore stuck to your skin like a sticker. His frog box is a little less foggy.
Quiet days are good days.
The next day, the skin on his side was a bit weepy, they will keep an eye on it. He is getting sweet little white hairs on his body now, a good sign its toughening up. He is due an ultrasound on his heart today.
Then as Lee and I were going to leave for the day, we saw the Dr. so we headed back to watch the ultrasound.
We have a team of doctors but it is easier for the sake of the blog just to call them all Doctor. They are all different people have different preferences and strategies. Lee and I also found they have very different styles in delivering news and information. Some give all the scenarios including word case, some use a lot of technical terms, some very slow to get the words out which makes us nervous and our favourite is the optimistic doctor.
Anyway, his pda valve is smaller but not fully closed. They will continue one more dose of the drugs. Since we have the ultrasound here he will do a quick check of the brain structure. There appears to be a minor bleed but wait what? There was nothing just the other day. He goes on to say that he is not concerned but as the parents it is impossible to not be concerned. He will get a formal brain scan tomorrow.
We try our best not to postulate every possibility and stay the heck off google.
but what if…
no just wait until tomorrow
Welcome to the rollercoaster, please ensure you are buckled in for the ride.
